This award recognises Andy’s lifetime achievement and exceptional contribution to the transport and logistics profession.
Sir Andy said: ‘Well it’s not often I’m lost for words, but to receive this sort of recognition from your sector-wide professional peers and colleagues, is humbling and staggering in equal measure. And to come as I reach the end of my 39 year military career is especially poignant.
I am so grateful to Helen Hardy FCILT and the board of CILT (UK) for thinking of me and for bestowing this honour.
As I reflected on what this award means, I was struck by one key conclusion. Which is that logistics is nothing without the people who deliver day in, day out. Their dedication and professionalism never cease to amaze me and I count myself very fortunate indeed to have had the honour of leading a wide range of logistic professionals across the years. Whether deployed on operations, maintaining daily support to keep our forces sustained, or driving modernisation, the often unsung logistic superheroes always go the extra mile.
Finally, CILT is a massively important part of the national logistic sector and, given all the challenges this country faces, its work to highlight the contribution of logistics to the UK’s prosperity and security, has never been more crucial’
